Strings Full of Passion

Selah, age 7, starts her weekly violin lesson with a scale, gracefully moving the bow back and forth across the strings effortlessly. The teacher praises her work and gently corrects her bow positioning. Again she climbs the scale with even more grace, immediately putting her instructor’s note into practice.

This is Selah’s third session studying violin at Fairmount with the assistance of a scholarship. Why did she choose the violin? “Because it’s fun,” she says with a smile. She also looks up to her older sister, Stella, who has been studying violin at Fairmount since 2024. Stella is also a recipient of Fairmount scholarships and wrote, “I am very grateful for all the scholarships I have received. They have helped me so much on my violin journey.”

Selah says that playing the violin puts her in a good mood, especially the piece Allegra, a piece she has been working on with her instructor this session. She particularly likes this piece because it has a fast tempo and she prefers to play faster pieces over slower ones.

Selah, Stella, and their four other siblings live in Chardon. With Fairmount’s new Chardon location growing to include several dedicated music studios, the family is excited to have their beloved Fairmount a little closer to home!

You can make Selah and Stella’s strings continue to play sweet concertos with a gift to the Fairmount Scholarship Fund.
