Spotlight: Sam Fanger

If you’ve stopped by Fairmount recently, you may have seen a familiar face behind the front desk…

That face is Sam Fanger’s!

Sam graduated from Fairmount in 2024 and has spent the past year at Ohio University studying Media Production with a minor in Marketing and Dance Performance and Choreography. She is spending her summer at home working at Fairmount!

Although her view now looks a little different than it did when she was a dance student, the energy is still the same. When asked to use one word to describe Fairmount, Sam chose the word “alive”.

I’ve spent my whole life at Fairmount and it’s always been so vibrant and full of life.

The liveliness that Sam experienced as a student was in large part thanks to her dance instructors, “They probably had some of the largest influences on my life and I’m so grateful for it.”

Sam credits her experiences at Fairmount to her creative thinking and storytelling skills that has led her down the path of Media Production. It also has provided her with a creative outlet - an important element of life for any individual, especially a young adult.

It taught me a lot about movement and gave me a physical outlet for my emotions. To this day, one of the best ways for me to process my emotions is through dancing.

With only one year of school under her belt, Sam has released a short film! Click Here to watch!

She is currently working on writing another script for her next semester. She says a lot of her inspiration stems from her background in dance.

My inspiration mainly comes from listening to music and giving movement to what I hear. I hope to incorporate dance into future projects I work on.

A dance education isn’t all Sam received at Fairmount, she also received a cuddly, furry friend!

“I remember being late for class and as I was walking to the building I saw a black cat laying in front of the door. I eventually had to go in, but after my classes I went outside and she was still in the area. My mother and I brought her to an animal shelter but they couldn’t take her. We ended up taking her home and naming her Mystic. She never left.”

When asked what sort of advise she would give to current Fairmount students, Sam said,

Put in effort and have fun because you’ll get out what you put into it.

Stop by this summer and say hello to Sam! She has been a great asset to Fairmount’s admin team and will be ready to greet you with a smile!
