Opening Doors for All: Accessibility Upgrades at Our Novelty Castle

After: Widening of the main doorway and replacement of the door.

With generous support from Senator Sandra O’Brien and the Ohio Department of Development, Fairmount was able to complete major upgrades to our beloved 55-year-old Novelty building this past year. As we shared in our previous blog post, the building received a much-needed facelift, and we’re proud to say the improvements are now complete.

This past December, we finalized the final phase of the project by making the first-floor bathroom fully wheelchair accessible. These updates ensure the space is more welcoming and usable for all visitors and included:

After: Installation of an additional grab bar.

  • Removal of the inner door and expansion of the wall

  • Installation of an additional grab bar

  • Widening of the main doorway and replacement of the door

  • Installation of a new toilet

These upgrades represent an important step in improving accessibility while preserving the original space that means so much to our community.
