Meet Our New Youth Theatre Production Director, Kyra Cutsail
As we roll into our next session, we’re excited to announce that we have a new youth theatre production director, Kyra Cutsail. Kyra brings a wealth of experience in the performing arts, and we’re excited to see her bring her skills to create a safe, welcoming space for our theatre students to be creative and thrive.
Kyra caught the theatre bug at a young age. Kyra explains she performed at her local community theatre’s production of White Christmas early on.
“After that, I was sold and spent nearly all of my time outside of school in the theater,” she said. “It was important to me to learn about as many aspects of the discipline as possible, so I spent time exploring lighting, sound, stage management, and direction, while being very involved in local youth theatre programs and my own school’s theatre.”
Kyra’s love for theatre was so strong that after school she decided to earn her BFA in Theatre Directing from Marietta College. It was after graduation that she learned her passion for helping young people.
“I served as an AmeriCorps member with City Year Cleveland and later worked as an After School Coordinator with Open Doors Academy,” Kyra stated. “Throughout all of these experiences, I discovered how much I love working with young people and helping them grow in confidence and find their voice.”
It was what Fairmount offered, giving children a positive and uplifting space to take the stage, that Kyra was attracted to the most, and decided to pursue the position here.
“In conversations with staff, I quickly knew I was entering a positive, uplifting space for creativity and growth. Fairmount provides such a valuable program for the community, and I believe that arts education that is safe, supportive, and centered on the young artists themselves is incredibly special and necessary,” she said.
“It is through programs like Fairmount and its incredible mentors that I am the artist and person that I am today. I am delighted to help create that experience for the next generation of young artists at Fairmount.”
While Kyra is excited by many facets of working at Fairmount she is most excited by helping children grow and cultivate their artistic skills.
“Every group of students brings its own energy and creativity to the rehearsal process, and I cannot wait to collaborate with them and help create something special together,” Kyra explained. I am also thrilled to be working alongside such talented local theatre professionals and look forward to learning and growing with them as well.”
Kyra hopes every student leaves Fairmount with stronger skills, greater confidence, and lasting memories.
“Students will have the opportunity to work with and learn from each other, as well as challenge themselves as artists and performers and develop new skills and confidence in their performance.”
Registration for fall classes opens July 13. This fall, students have the opportunity to take the stage for Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical JR. with Kyra or Disney’s Mary Poppins JR. Don’t miss the opportunity for your kid to shine.
