This Winter/Spring, Fairmount has TWO writing workshops to offer!

“Write Poems!”– 4-week online Zoom session, ages 8-12 years

Dates & Time: February 3rd, 10th, 17th, & 24th, 7-8pm

Fee: $48

Editor, author and poet Angela Gartner will help young
writers learn a variety of poetry forms—structure, rhyme
and the famous poets who use them. Participants will
then write their own poems to share with the class! Last
class includes a share out for family and friends (last 30
minutes of each class). Attend class from anywhere and
invite the cousins, friends, etc. to log on and learn together!

“Writing Your Life: A Course in Memoir”– 3-week online Zoom session, ages 15 years-adult

Dates & Time: January 15th, 22nd, & 29th, 10am-12pm

Fee: $144

A workshop on memoir led by writer Claudia Taller, during these six hours of instruction, learn what makes great memoir and how to tell your own story. We’ll explore voice, good beginnings, culling memories, creating scenes, and how to put the stories of your life into a cohesive whole. During class,
journaling, photo prompts, and snapshot writing exercises will help expand your writing toolbox. Weekly homework is designed to deepen your skills, open up your own voice, and guide you towards the segments of your life worth exploring.

Meet our instructors!

Meet Angela Gartner- whose poetry has appeared in “Cabinet of Heed” and Literary Cleveland (online 2020 Writing Prompt). She is also a regular at poetry open mics. Her non-fiction stories, essays, and columns have appeared in several magazines; weekly and daily newspapers in Ohio as well as the Chicago Tribune. She is a graduate student at Kent State University in Ohio and the president of the Society of Professional Journalists — Cleveland Pro Chapter.

Claudia Taller is a Cleveland-area writer who has written for many local and national publications over the last 25 years and has authored four books. In 2008, she launched Igniting Possibilities, a conduit for helping people realize their creative potential through writing, art, meditation, and yoga. She’s been leading workshops and retreats for over 20 years, many of them at Lakeside, Ohio’s Chautauqua on Lake Erie.
