WHAT IS SUZUKI?
The mission of the music program at the Fairmount Center is to create a positive environment where children learn to access their abilities as individual musicians and as members of a constructive, creative community. Parents, other caregivers and children will develop positive relationships in which people communicate respectfully and desire to create beautiful music.
The Suzuki program at the Fairmount Center offers weekly individual PLUS group instruction in piano, violin, and viola. Instruction typically starts at age 3½ to 5, but the older child is encouraged as well. Parents learn to play the Twinkle Variations and how to teach their child. Group class meets 2 or 3 times a month, where students learn to play as both leaders and individuals of the group. Parents meet once a semester with the instructor as a large group to discuss the Suzuki philosophy and issues that come up in home practicing and group class.
Students are encouraged to reinforce their skills in our Theory class. Students perform in recitals and outreach programs each semester as soloists or as a group.
In addition to the Suzuki program, The Fairmount Center offers weekly traditional private instruction in guitar, piano, violin, viola and voice.
Teens and adults are encouraged study an instrument or voice through private lessons. The more accomplished teen and adult musician may join the Chagrin Valley Chamber Orchestra (see description below).
Alternative music ensembles include the Fairmount Youth Pops Orchestra and the School of Rock. Whether the instruction is Traditional or Suzuki-based, all families become part of an active enrichment program that is child-focused. It is our firm belief that all children are musical and will enjoy a lifetime of making music if given a nurturing environment when they are young.
For information, locations and to schedule observations call the office at 440.338.3171.
LESSON FEES ARE $22.00 FOR A HALF HOUR PRIVATE LESSON.
IN ADDITION THERE WILL BE A GROUP FEE OF $35.00
EACH SESSION FOR SUZUKI STUDENTS.
