A Partnership
between
Mayfield Village
and
The Fairmount Center for the Creative and Performing Arts

A dedicated committee of residents and business representatives provided leadership to produce the Mayfield Village 2020 Vision Plan. The Plan recommends an overall strategy for guiding future development and for taking collective action to enhance the community’s quality of life. Specifically, the Plan assesses current development trends in the Village, projects future development impacts, and then recommends a comprehensive set of policies and implementation strategies--including zoning changes--for guiding future actions that will shape development patterns in the Village.

A portion of this plan focuses on quality of life and how to best utilize the former Methodist Church, recently acquired by the village, at the corner of SOM Center and Wilson Mills road.  The site of the former Methodist Church is a strategic parcel and the new use of the facility must be carefully integrated to create synergy between the residents of Mayfield Village, a potential private/public partnership with Fairmount Center provides the village with two vital opportunities. 1) to reuse this special building to serve a public use 2) to utilize the assets of the building to create activity that will help make Mayfield Village a destination.

The Mayor has envisioned that the best use of the venue is to develop a robost arts program and professional theatre performance initiative to bring people from all over the state of Ohio to the village where they will not only experience wonderful entertainment, they will avail themselves of the amenities provided by the Mayfield Village 2020 Vision Plan.

By taking advantage of Mayfield Village's and the Fairmount Center's shared aspirations of building a better, more vibrant community, we feel confident we can achieve authentic results for our region's cultural enrichment, economic growth and educational health.

The arts teach discipline, self-esteem; they inspire creativity, and they help people, young and old, to set and reach goals. The training and the challenge of performance in the creative arts can provide a student, no matter what age or professional background, with enhanced life skills and a greater understanding of self. And as students of the creative arts follow their paths in life, they invariably find themselves armed with a richer knowledge of who they are; and find life's challenges can be met with unprecedented power and clarity.
