GEORGE ROTH embarked on his professional acting career 23 years ago when he graduated from the three-year actor’s training program at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London. During his eight years in England he appeared in the Royal National Theatre’s West End production of Brighton Beach Memoirs and at many other venues around the UK, including the Embassy Theatre, Hammersmith Studio, Viceroy Theatre (London); Wolsey Theatre (Ipswich) and Crucible Theatre (Sheffield).
Mr. Roth has appeared in a number of productions at regional theaters across the United States. Since moving to Cleveland, his work in Northeast Ohio includes productions of Oliver!, West Side Story (Cain Park); The Chosen, Ella, Americans (Cleveland Play House); Jolson and Company, The Sunshine Boys, Visions of Right (Jewish Community Center of Greater Cleveland); Hamlet, A Man of No Importance, The Diary of Anne Frank (Beck Center for the Arts); Nickel and Dimed (Great Lakes Theater Festival/Cleveland Public Theatre); Uncle Tom’s Cabin (Cleveland Public Theatre); Highway Ulysses (Dobama Theatre); Amadeus, As You Like It, You Can’t Take It With You, Merry Wives of Windsor, Julius Caesar, Taming of the Shrew, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, A Christmas Carol, Much Ado About Nothing (Great Lakes Theater Festival). His television work includes: Murphy Brown, Love and War, Doing Time on Maple Drive, Get a Life, The Human Factor, Capital City, Tailspin, Fully Clothed, Non-Dancing Girls, A&E Biography of Isaac Newton, A&E Biography of Howard Carter, Civil War Journals, The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln and Mummies. Film experience includes roles in the films Batman, The Russia House, Nightbreed and Foreign Body.
As a teacher and director Mr. Roth has worked at Hawken Middle School, Akron Public Schools, and the Central School of Speech and Drama and guest lectured at Kent State University. He has had the privilege of working with and learning from many talented actors and directors during his career, including Sean Connery, Michael Keaton, John Mahoney, Charles Haid, David Cronenburg, Tim Burton, Jason Isaacs, Ken Olin, Joanna Gleason, Candice Bergen, and he considers it an honor to work with a new generation of young, talented artists.
